with the recent influx of negative reviews, im compelled to express this app sucks. there are so many bugs and not once has anything be updated or fixed. ive had the app for 3 years, and it works just ok. i have similar issues on and off. its not consistent enough, timetable is not accurate, i e been charged extra, not charged at all, etc. so much potential wasted.

Extremely full of bugs that have not been fixed that are very serious for those of us who rely on the digital TAP card for public transit. From time to time, a 's card(s) dissappear from the app, which is a serious issue! It is best for everyone to stick to the physical TAP card instead. I'd rate this app 0 stars if I could.

Wasn't working at first. Then turned NFC on. Still wasn't working on the bus. Then tried again at a metro and it randomly was working. Only specifically when holding the phone with the app open and with the screen facing the card reader. Could need improvement. Especially just mentioning on the website as well that NFC needs to be on. Not everyone knows what that is...

If you have a virtual TAP card, be sure to "park" it before updating the mobile app. If you don't, you'll lose access to the card and any fare you have on it. They tell you to park it before uninstalling and reinstalling, but not that updates will also remove access to the card. Fortunately, I didn't have fare on it when the app was updated. They need to fix it so auto-updates don't cause this problem. — Other than that, the app is useful.

I've been frustrated with tap. It was all good until 3months ago where the app started becoming faulty with the fare. Just to find out it's causing issues because I had two Student tap cards previous aside from the original tap card that I actually use. (From what customer service said) just for them to tell me I need to uninstall & reinstall the app and get a new tap card and request a transfer for the fare I already do have on the card I've been trying to use. Which I'm skeptical to do now. 👎

My first 2 star review was posted in 2022. I'm here now in 2025 and this app is still hot garbage. it works at the turnstiles maybe 60% of the time, and that's AFTER the first two tries have already failed on you. If I wasn't smart enough to still have a physical tap card in my wallet, I would have missed my train to work. I've upgraded my rating from 2 stars down to 1 star. I sure hope they get their new app out in time for the World Cup and Olympics coming up because this one is terrible.

I could not use my phone to tap today at Chatsworth Station, as the readers claimed it was an "invalid card." For some reason, the app states "TAP card is on another device." That's impossible as I own no other devices with the TAP app installed. I just set it up last week only on this phone, and used it yesterday afternoon. Even if the problem is solved, the app has effectively turned my remaining stored value into an involuntary donation as this was my last day riding.

One of the worst apps I’ve used. The Tap LA App is buggy, lacks important instructions, and customer service is straight-up bad. I added funds onto my card, and seconds later it said “Card is no longer available”—my money was gone with no help or possible refund. If you plan to ride the Metro in LA save yourself the trouble and use cash or any other method but this app. This app is full of problems and very unreliable.
