BasicAirData GPS Logger is a simple App for recording your position and your path.
It's a basic and lightweight GPS tracker focused on accuracy, with an eye to power saving.
It works offline (without internet connection), it has NO integrated maps.
This app is very accurate in determining the orthometric height (the altitude above sea level), if you enable EGM96 altitude correction on settings.
You can record all your trips, view them with any installed external viewer, directly from the in-app tracklist, and share them in KML, GPX, and TXT format in many ways.

The app is 100% Free and Open Source.

F.A.Q:
In case of any issue, you may find it helpful to read the frequently asked questions (https://github.com/BasicAirData/GPSLogger/blob/master/ree.md#frequently-asked-questions).

IMPORTANT NOTES:
In GPS Logger the Location is always accessed (started) when the App is in Foreground, and then is kept active also in background. On Android 10+ the app needs the Location permission "only while using the app". It doesn't need the "all the time" permission.
Depending on your Android Version, if you want to run GPS Logger reliably in background, you have to disable ALL the battery optimisations. For example you could in Android Settings, Apps, GPS Logger, Battery that the Background Activity is allowed and the Battery Usage is Not Optimised.

I use this app on my Android smartphone to create GPS track data from which to Georgia photos taken on my non-GPS-enabled camera. Works great (as long as I to start recording before shooting pictures/videos!) Really wish the app had a selectable "automatic daily track recording" mode, in which it would automatically start a new track each day at midnight (and close the previous day's track), day after day, without having to manually close and start tracks each day.

Very valuable app! May I suggest a new feature? The "Annotate" function to store a coordinate only grabs the coordinate found in the last gps reading (often inaccurate), but it would be nice to get an "Average" coordinate: similar to what a surveyor would do, start gathering multiple coordinates, while the lets it run in a fixed location as long as they need, and when finished it stores the average of all those gathered points.

While logging, I want to be able to lock the screen and put the phone in my pocket or use a navigation app in the foreground. Either or both is suspending the GPS Logger app. I have Android 10. I found that I can give the app GPS access permission for when it is in use only not all the time. Thanks for your prompt reply. Had checked those beforehand. So, app is not battery optimized and battery saver is off. According another , the cause is with MIUI of my Xiaomi phone being aggressive.

I've only had this for a day, but so far it's been awesome! Started tracking when I hit the first dirt road today, quickly added "annotations" at places with good camp sites, deadfalls, views, washouts, etc., and was able to quickly export the data when I got home. Pulled the gpx up in gpx studio and clipped some of the data out (I'd forgotten to stop tracking), then exported that and ed into a Google Map. So, so easy and simple. I've never done anything like this before. Thank you!

Edited: Overall experience has been excellent. Love the ability to pause the recording of a track and to add placemarks. I am presently using four different GPS apps simultaneously. File sizes are moderate compared to other apps. Good performance. - previously reported problem with track export was caused by the phone, not this application.

Hi, looks like a great app and love that it is open source. I am unable to connect to any satellites. Using a Pixel 3a, I have tried restarting my phone as mentioned in several comments, followed the getting started guide, and opening the app in an open space. But the GPS fix tab always just says: "Looking for GPS 0/##". The ## is updating so the app does seem to be doing some searching, but the first number is always 0 satellites.

Great app! I ed this halfway through a hike to get some basic distance calculations and gpx tracks and it worked perfectly. Bonus points for being comparatively small and lightweight (3 hours of hiking only drained my battery about 24% and my phone normally drains much faster especially with GPS on) I know hiking isn't the primary use of this app but I would love the ability to see elevation gain/loss totals and graphs. I'd also love the ability to rename tracks. Maybe I'll contribute.

I use this app for location tracking, since Google Timeline will become device-only soon. However, one thing I have noticed is that it logs far fewer locations than Google does. I feel like it's a bit "too literally" a "GPS Logger" in that it only logs locations acquired via GPS, but not via the cellular network. I know location on Android is complicated, but would it be possible to log (at least optionally) ALL locations no matter how they were acquired? (E. g. usually no GPS while on trains.)
