Smartphone Link allows you to connect a compatible Garmin navigator and your Android smartphone. Once linked, the compatible Garmin navigator uses your existing mobile data plan[1] to share information with your Android smartphone, including s, search results, favorite locations, your driving destination, and even your parking spot. With Smartphone Link, your compatible Garmin navigator can also access Garmin Live Services[2] for useful, real-time driving information.
What Are Garmin Live Services?
Garmin Live Services provide the most up-to-date “live” information to your Garmin navigator using your existing mobile data plan. There’s no need for an additional data connection. Some services are included when you connect to Smartphone Link. Other services within the app are available through optional paid subscriptions offering content and enhanced features. It integrates with my Garmin satnav well enough and provides some useful functionality. It seems to do everything that it is meant to. This is an updated review. I previously gave a low rating because it stayed running when you were finished with it and required a forced stop to quit. That now seems to be resolved, and I have adjusted my rating accordingly.

Works well as far as it's been used with the Dezl 780 primarily for traffic. Wish it could auto connect with any ed phone in range instead of having to manually change phone connections; auto reconnection to same paired phone is seamless. Traffic reports are generally accurate & quick to update, but will occasionally misread lane closures/construction as a full road closure & try to route around which is unnecessary. Considering the cost of these units, I think "advanced weather" functionality should be free like it is on Rand McNally devices; basic weather reports accurately anyhow. Most irritating is the constant "access permission" request notification on every device connection event & multiple times thereafter if you don't connect. I don't pair my phone through unit so have no need to connect to phone s.

I like the app... but lately I have noticed that it keeps turning the Wi-Fi on my phone off when it connects to my garmin nuvi, but it doesn't re-enable it after it disconnects and I don't have unlimited data on my phone. I have looked in the settings but I can't find any option to disable that function. this is the only thing that annoys me about it. because I never to turn it back on myself.

Unfortunately this app is currently very problematic. It drains the battery at the rate of >25% per day no matter what. I have all of the background options turned off. I can reset my phone and never touch the icon and it will drains constantly. There is nothing to "force stop" because I never run it. I have to uninstall and re-install if I want to use a feature like Live Track when riding my motorcycle.

App was working fine. But I was having a problem with my phone, memory was rapidly running out. I'd delete things, but it would run out again. Checking storage for different apps, I found Smartlink had 9.8 GB of data! No wonder I was in trouble! Can we have an update that isn't so greedy; I can't see why Smartlink needs more than minimal memory!

This is basically a connectivity app to get internet to your Garmin device. It does that well in a limited way. Weather and traffic alerts work well although last year the constant high winds warnings got old quickly. I wish the devices would link that I could search locations on my Nav V that aren't in its database. The phone itself is typically in the trunk of my bike on charger. Lost 1 star because of the always on "feature" of the app. Notifications doesn't work with Nav V

Been real upset with this app lately. I recently purchased the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and it continuously disconnects from my GPS. I have unpaired it and repaired it multiple times and it is still happening. Additionally, every time I turn on my Bluetooth the app begins running all of the time. It never happened with my Galaxy 7 and I have been very pleased with everything up until now. Why is this happening?

Great for sending addressees to your Garmin, but the constant messages on the GPS saying your phone disconnected is annoying at best, but when you're in the middle of navigating it makes you want to throw it out the window. I can't drive 3mi before I get the first notification and get them every few minutes after. The only way to get it to stop is to close the app. I also spent 50mi on highway that it kept trying to get me to leave saying it was closed ahead, which it never was.
