The secret path to language learning
the Swedish language classes in school? You started with hundreds of basic words and expressions, continued with tons of Swedish grammar lessons and at the end of a full semester’s language course you could barely translate a sentence or say “Hello!” to a foreigner. That’s the traditional way to learn a language.
Mondly has a different approach, that’s opposite to the average language course.

This is how the future of language courses looks like
The App gets you started with a basic conversation between two people. You quickly start memorizing core words, use them to build sentences and phrases, and at the end of a 45-minutes module you are able to reconstruct that conversation with your own voice. It’s an effective way to learn Swedish phrases. State-of-the-art Natural Speech Recognition and Spaced Repetition Algorithms make the app effective for learning languages.

Here are the key features that make Mondly a great tutor for you:

Crystal-clear audio and professional voice actors. Learn the right Swedish pronunciation from conversations between native speakers.

State-of-the-art Speech Recognition. Mondly knows exactly how to listen to your Swedish words and phrases. You will only get a positive if you speak Swedish clearly and correctly. This will improve your pronunciation.

Useful phrases for real situations. Memorizing hundreds of isolated words is not the way to go when it comes to learning Swedish. Mondly teaches you Swedish vocabulary by offering you core words and phrases. The app breaks the learning process down into short lessons and puts them into themed packs.

Learn conversational Swedish. Conversation is the main reason to take this free course. It will help you build a core Swedish vocabulary with widely-used nouns and verbs, and speak Swedish clearly.

Verb conjugations. If you want to learn more during this course, just tap the Swedish verbs and get the full conjugation on the screen, including the translation. It’s faster and better than a dictionary.

Advanced Statistics. The App uses intelligent reporting, so you can always follow your progress. Build your vocabulary step by step and become better daily.

The Leaderboard. See how your friends are doing and compete with people from all over the world to become the best learner in the Mondly community family. Take the Weekly Quiz to become even better.

Adaptive Learning. Learning Swedish is different from person to person. So we taught the app to learn from your way of learning. After little time spent together, Mondly will understand what suits you best and it will become your own guide and customized teacher.

Before you know it, at the end of these Swedish lessons, you will master the most useful 5000 words and phrases and you will be on the fast lane to learning a new language.

Great app, but there's still room for improvement. For example, at the end of each lesson, it should be possible to repeat the exercises that had errors. Also, the exercise where you type sentences or build them ordering words doesn't make much sense when translating from Swedish to English. That exercise doesn't improve the ability to understand Swedish. Finally, exercises with the microphone don't always work.

The learning technique is great but the microphone does not pick up what I'm saying when in hands-free mode... I have to shout for it to even pick me up sometimes. Other times if I repeat exactly how she says it, it hears other weird words so I have to pronounce it less precisely to ... So frustrating!! I paid for but I'm so over it I am thinking of ending my subscription at the end of the trial.

I have the version. Nice app to learn some words. Positive: many languages for one price, weekly lessons. Negative: no explanation of grammar, lessons within topic contain the same words and phrases (no increase in difficulty/expansion of words), topics are very basic (e.g. topic food contains only few items), conversation per topic is unrelated to the previous lessons, grammar in the whole course is very basic. Over all good to learn basic words, not enough to speak a foreign language.

It's been a good app so far when it comes to spelling out words or picking them out in sentences but the text to speech / hands free seems to be the weak link of the app. The two female voices pronounce the same words with slight variation with one sounding tone deaf making words difficult. Even when parroting what they say the microphone has the tendency to either not pick up words at all or it's interpreted differently. Speaking incorrectly can sometimes result in a which is terrible.

Been using the app for several months before purchasing the subscription. I find it really good with useful free content (daily lessons) and even better benefits of subscription. After trying other similar apps (i.e. Duolingo, Babel) I find this one to have the best balance of gamification and practical knowledge, as well as diverse ways of learning. It's not annoying or pushy, but still very motivating.

A language app that works for me. After Memrise butchered their app it became useless and the spoken words were too fast. Duolingo was great for single words but very repetitive. This app seems to have the mix right and I find I don't really notice it switching between English and Swedish. So far I like it.

Very few functions are for free, though I wouldn't mind paying for it if it works completely alright. In five days I've tried everyday free lessons, and I've already noticed several mistakes there. For example there's a phrase "Jag älskar att läsa" and I should translate it, so there are two variants: "Do you like to read?" and "I love." None is correct. I don't want to pay for bugs, so possibly after a few days of free lessons I will delete it.

I was sort of struggling to learn swedish with other apps but with this app I think I'll learn swedish in no time, it has a very friendly interface and the voice recordings in the app are crystal clear and easy to understand for non-native speakers. Very well done Mondly team, it sure is fun and effective.
