Best language app I've used, and I've used A LOT of them. It covers all aspects: reading, writing/typing, pronunciation, and dialogue! Honestly the best alternative if you're not able to learn in person. They have a good selection of languages and are continously adding new languages to the list. Only suggestion would be to cover visual languages i.e. Sign Language as well, it would be great if I could continue my ASL on this app as well.

I'm a paid subs and find this app to be a mixed bag. There are obvious parallels between it and DuoLingo. It doesn't do much teaching (same as DuoLingo). It shows words and phrases and expects you to learn them through rote memorization. Same as DuoLingo, but without the explanations available from other s in the comments section. My biggest issue is it uses sentences for context but then provides zero explanation on tap for the words. There's also little to no explanation on sentence structure. It teaches you the word like fruit (Obst) and to sell (verkaufen) and then it gives you a sentence like 'You sell fruit in the market' (du verkaufst obst auf dem markt) but provides zero explanation on where auf and dem came from. It is pretty obvious in this particular sentence, but this is just an example for context. This is a far bigger problem when multiple verbs are in a and one is active versus not. Also, the recorded conversation piece is useless. The sentences used are relevant to the topic, but not the skill level. If I'm a beginner I listen to it and have no idea what is going on and immediately forget all of it. Unlikely to renew without improvements.

Off to a good start. Seriously considering buying the reduced price year-long 34 language deal. The free program so far is actually great as it is; I just want to reward a really good group of teaching apps. While I can afford it mind you. $48 a year I can afford; anything >$100/y, let alone ~$470/y, I can't afford no matter how much I like it.

DO NOT BUY. Down to 1 star because I cancelled after not using it for over a year. A couple months later I get charged for another full year. They asked for a cancellation number. Never recieved one BOTH times I tried. Had to go to PayPal to get an email to have THEM confirm a cancellation. I thought I could at least get a refund because I was no longer on the app. NOPE. "YOU AGREED TO PAY. YOU GOT A WARNING EMAIL. NO REFUND." ...no I cancelled and didn't get a confirm nor emails. Not. Good.

I don't like that we I plug my earbuds or pair my bluetooth headsets, the app audio doesn't work. How do you learn a new language if you can't hear the foreign words? also the number of points you get for completing a lesson is too low. Your opponents have a lot, to keep up with them there is no way I'm gonna be on the app all day and night!

I was born by the border between Strasbourg, and Karlsruhe, . So, I have been multi-lingual since birth. I've been brushing up on French and practicing speaking the Latin American Spanish I've learnt from 20+ years in Cali, using Android apps. This is the first German app I've tried & it's already proving to be excellent! Hopefully I won't have to "kiss alot of frogs to find my Prince", as it were, whilst searching for good apps for Spanish and French! It has great potential, but the translations are not literal or verbatim. It is just lazy to change the meaning when it effects how we interpret individual words. "In unserum urlaub besuchen wir Italien" is clearly not "We visit Italy in our holidays" , especially when it clearly starts with, " in our". This does not help us to learn what the individual words mean. I shouldn't need Google translate to use the app.
