Bury me, my Love is a Text Messaging Adventure game about Nour, a Syrian migrant trying to find her way to Europe. Her husband Majd, who remains behind in Syria, communicates with Nour through a messaging app, advising her as best he can so that she reaches her destination safely.

“Bury me, my love” is a Syrian goodbye phrase that roughly means, “Take care, don’t even think about dying before I do.” This phrase takes on a deeper meaning as Majd says it to his wife, Nour, as she undertakes her perilous journey to reach Europe.

A co-production from ARTE, the European cultural network, with The Pixel Hunt and Figs.

***A game in an instant messaging app
As Majd, you can communicate with Nour and follow her journey, just as if you were chatting with her via WhatsApp. You will text each other and exchange emojis, pics and selfies, relevant links…

*** Multiple narrative routes to discover
By reading instant messages and choosing response options, players help Nour overcome the hardships she will encounter.
Your choices in Bury me, my Love truly impact on the story, with Nour able to visit 50 different locations and reach 19 potential different endings with widely divergent outcomes.

*** Based on real-life events
Bury me, my Love is a “reality-inspired game”, a documented fiction that draws inspiration directly from real-world events. The original idea stems from an article written by Le Monde journalist, Lucie Soullier, telling the story of Dana, a young Syrian woman who fled her country and is now living in .

This experience may affect the sensitivity of younger people.

The underlying story concept is touching and I can see the value in the messaging of the game. However, the actual gameplay has a lot to be desired. If you make a mistake you need to start the entire game again. This is utterly boring because you already know everything you need to say to get there. The replay experience is also awkward, if not stupidly designed. For example, if you tell her she forgot her deodorant she will say she already packed it. If you don't she says she forgot it. 🤨

Nice game. It felt like a normal dialogue between a couple who are in love and help each other and respect each other. Nothing over the top, so it made it real. Got a happy ending first play through. I may play more choices but as others say, it'd be nicer to have a 'Choices Made' map so we can return to choices easier than playing from start all the time.

Screen flickering on Android 8.0.0 making it impossible to play. No way to team or make ticket. Asking for access on file system, which is not great policy. Storyline is great so far though, will be happy to review the score if bugs are corrected. Edit: got ed by the developer that made lot of effort to fix it, really appreciated it.

Compelling, heartbreaking. A really inventive game, but emotionally draining to get through multiple attempts. Some commentary on the actual gameplay: it's tedious to have to restart entirely- a feature to go back to a specific 'decision' or part of the journey would be useful, if you wanted to try a different approach to a situation. Also encountered some issues in playing the voicemails. Sometimes they would start and stop, or not play at all.

It's a great idea and I love so many aspects of it, especially the real time delay, but there isn't enough warmth between the characters and when you lose and start again, even when you choose a different path, a lot of the dialogue is the same. I've played it through three times, never getting a happy ending, which I appreciate makes this more realistic, but there needs to be a new story each time otherwise it gets repetative. It is definitely worth playing, it just needs more content.

I am still recovering from this game. The tension is legitimately stressful; moreso if you're playing with real-time updates. The use of real events in the modern world is as humanizing as it is terrifying, so is the texting element. I found myself afraid for Nour like she was a real person in my life and it's been quite profound. The romantic elements involved trying to be ive from a distance, which was unique and engaging. The educational aspects were spot-on. Truly, a work of art.

Great game, great team. It feels at times like you are just choosing something of little importance and then it turns out to be a major decision. I had to stop and think every action before I made my final decision. I also learned a lot about the topics they explore. I originally installed this on the Switch, but I had some issues running the game properly. After explaining my problem to the team they were an amazing help and now I'm able to play thanks to their assistance and patience.

I haven't been emotionally moved by mobile video game before and this one was pretty amazing for multiple reasons. Firstly, it's kind of realistic and the interaction will bring you to tears or joy depending on how you make choices and secondly it gave me a perspective I don't think I could have ever received from just reading news articles or watching debates or any of that... I think the education part is so big and the historical part is so big in this game. I highly recommend playing it
