I love new scientist and have been reading for most of my life on and off. The android app is okay, but the audio management is awful. It is the simplest podcast player out there, with barely any features to filter, mark things as read, only add new things to your queue, etc. This doesn't make it unusable, however for the last 2 weeks, I have been unable to or play anything. I have a full subscription, I am in the USA. I've uninstalled, cleared cache, etc. to no avail :-(

This is the best of the many "popularized science" magazines. It comes from the UK but the contributions come from throughout the world. The level of background might be classed as "advanced beginner without need for a math background". Anyone from high school on up will be able to understand and enjoy their presentations. I'm a major fan. (You need to subscribe to the digital version. It's not expensive.) If I were to offer a suggestion, it is PLEASE PROVIDE A SEARCH FUNCTION! Thanks!

You broke everything with this "update". Even dark mode doesn't work anymore (black text on black background). Where's the ed area? Why can't it where I left off reading anymore? Whoever tested this rancid pile of code should be sacked. Clearly the engineer didn't read the review. Dark mode doesn't work, not because you can't turn it on, but because you can't read *black text on a black background*. And tapping "magazines" shows all of them, not just the ones you ed.

Extremely buggy on Pixel 2 - e.g., tapping the search icon results in a page saying "search_landing_title search_landing_" with a search field autofilled by "search_input_placeholder". Any optimistic attempt to use this to actually search results in a new page saying "search_error_title search_error_". Also seconding the broken menu issues mentioned by others. And to the person saying "mine works so it's your fault": Nope :|

NS offers some of the best writing about science you will find. The pieces are clear and concise. Their recent app upgrade is a vast improvement and was way overdue. My only knock on the magazine is that it suffers ideological bias, a sadly all too common condition for any publication these days. That said, I've been a paying subscriber for years.

I love this app, it opens quickly and never crashes. Easy to set up your interests, easy to opt out of emails (because I don't have time to read the ones I already get), and super easy to navigate. The additional links in the stories are all good and I like the links to the researchers' home pages. All-in-all, one of my favourite readers!

I'm a medical doctor and have been reading the New Scientist since I was 15. It explains new and interesting research findings in a huge range of health areas, tells you the strength and limitations of the evidence, puts it all into context and is easy and fun to read. And in an online world of false information, New Scientist should be a go-to for people wanting to learn how to improve their health, without resorting to google or inaccurate instagram influencer advice. 5*'s!

Seems to now be impossible to simply listen to an edition without a lot of fiddling with individual articles. A feature I used all the time so I'll be cancelling my subscription.
