New activity section is pointless for people without trackers. I'm a Zumo owner and don't need to lose so much screen space. Access to nearby devices is also not mandatory for GPS s and shouldn't request access every time you go to the map tab. Not sure I'm a big fan of the new map engine but I guess with time I'll get over it.

They quickly fixed the issue of not being able to launch the app on a custom rom, hence review edited (way to go, Garmin!). Finally being able to use it, I DO like the redesign of the UI and new handling of offline maps. Let's see if the remaining bugs (couple of crashes, constant nagging to turn on device location) can be fixed - updated to 3 stars.

Been using the Garmin Instinct and Solar version for some time and have had no issues with the app until now. Since the update, it won't auto- any of the maps. I've ed a few maps manually for offline use and it won't show the topo map in the main map for that area even after manually ing it. As soon as you fix it I'll change my rating. *** Edit for those who have this issue. Clear the cache and data on the app. Sign back in and allow permissions. All fixed***

Update 2: New map format is rubbish, can't fit the whole of australia in one map (need 3) overlap sections are unavoidable wasting storage.. What was wrong with just having the selection of countries? Update: resently, it constantly states in the notifications that it is sending an update to my Fenix 7.. I checked online, it is already on the latest update! Old review: Would rate 5 ⭐.. but can't make out some of the routes easily.. it would be good if you could choose the maps alpha channel!

Was looking forward to this map update but do not if you can avoid it. This update completely nerfed the mapping layer especially in Europe where it is completely useless as it doesn't even show any hiking trails, everything is just a thin dark grey line that is barely visible. The app used to be decent but now it's just horrible, went from 4 stars to 1. They are pushing their subscription model so hard that this is just very scummy, expected more.

Latest update completely changed the interface and forced all my dual sport motorcycle tracks to courses which now are not following the roads half the time and have them veering off course. Garmin refuses to answer my email on how I can fix this. I used to take someone's track convert it to a course and retrace the entire course with all new points putting it back on track with the roads and just delete one of the old points which in turn deleted the entire old track leaving just my new course.

The new UI is slightly better but I don't like that I have no control over the map s, the app s maps updates at will, nothing in the settings to stop it. And the ordering of the inReach messages is still totally random, makes it hard to find messages when it mixes recent messages with messages from years ago.

The old app looked dated, but had some pretty basic functionality that was working reliably (all you need when our on the field). The new one looks modern, but it is completely unusable and keeps crashing on my Galaxy S24 Ultra when I interact with the map. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the app but no luck.
