The application uses foreground service to have a constant connection with the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth ELM adapter which is used for communication with the modern vehicles when the app is in foregaround or in background state. The app collects data from a vehicle and store it locally to provide information about average fuel rate, average speed, mileage, trip time and other statistics params even when the app is in a background state.
